Salam/Hello to the beautiful people reading this. One of the reasons I named the website Discover The Thoughts of a Muslim Black Women is due mostly in part of how proud I am to represent all of those social identities. Being Black, Muslim and a Woman is a blessing not an adversity that I have to overcome.
Early voting commenced on October 24th and ended November 1st. BUT election day is November 3rd.Exercise your right to vote. I was watching an Instagram live earlier by @villageauntie (Not sure if the live is still up by but I highly recommend you watch it if it is). She spoke about the normalisation of anxiety during this election period but she also mentioned what it felt like to live in a Black Women's body for as long as she had. That really touched me.
Another thing, It is perfectly okay to be concerned about the election. However, don't overwhelm your mind and thoughts over something you personally have no control over. We're all hoping for the best. Expect the worst as well. Remember, a change in the person running the country does not change the treatment of Black people in this country. There's a clear difference between being a citizen of a country and a mere inhabitant. Black people have always been inhabitants of this country. How do I know this? The continual dehumanization and mistreatment of Black people for the past four centuries. Don't forget that race is a social construct. This means that African Americans could've been named Americans but they made sure to keep it in there.
I will not make this too long so that you can actually read it and be a frequent visitor of this page.
So, As a black person go vote but don't put all your hopes into a president. To the Muslim reading this, make your duas and remember that we serve Allah. We don't stress over thing we don't have control over. As women, the current president was caught on camera saying what he said now. I don't know what else to tell you about that...
Stay tuned for next blog post which will be discussing Walter Rodney and his contributions to us. I want to do a series featuring activists and writers who I believe we should know about. Being ignorant is not cute. I am focused on Black people. I said what I said. Make sure to subscribe to the emailing list and follow me on IG @oumou_tamboura. Thanksssssssssss
